YOUNG pupils were this week given their first insight into the glorious world of work.
More than 100 youngsters from Broad Oak High School in Bury spent Wednesday shadowing parents and relatives as they carried out their daily trades and professions.
The work-shadowing event was organised by the Hazel Avenue school as part of Education 2000 which promotes vocational education.
Pupils visited workplaces as diverse as shops, factories, hospitals, the magistrates' court, driving school and the Bury Times Group offices.
On their return to school, the youngsters were given the opportunity to feed back and develop the skills they had learnt during the work shadowing exercise through class discussion, drama role play and computer sessions.
Mr Dai Humphreys, Broad Oak's careers co-ordinator, said: "The scheme has run for several years and proves to be highly successful in given pupils a headstart in the competition for careers.
"We are grateful to both parents and employers for their help and co-operation."
