CHARITY fun runners braced themselves for a soaking then, as if by magic, the sun came out for the start of the race.

The four-mile event was organised by The Rotary Club of Blackburn Borough to raise money for the Children's Society and other good causes.

More than 80 people took part and the club hopes it will bring in £3,000.

Ian Ibbotson, who organised the run at Witton Park, Blackburn - backed by the Lancashire Evening Telegraph - said: "It was a gloomy, windy start to the day but just as the race was about to begin the rain gave up.

"We now look forward to receiving all the much-deserved sponsorship money which has been pledged."

Jason Harbour, from Blackburn, was first past the finishing line with an impressive time of 22 minutes 42 seconds. He was followed by Derek Turner from Nelson who took 23 minutes and 28 seconds to completed two laps.

In third place came Peter Salmon from the Diocesan Dashers and Dawdlers team who boasted a time of 25 minutes and 30 seconds.

The winning children, who completed one lap, were: Luke Turner of Nelson, 15 mins 35 secs, Sam Holden of Blackburn, 15 mins 46 secs, Chris Dawson, of Nelson, 16 mins 43 secs.
