GRIMEWATCH, the Lancashire Evening Telegraph's award-winning environmental campaign, celebrates 10 green years today with a prestigious ceremony in Accrington.

The 10th Annual Grimewatch Awards presentation, at St Christopher's High School, marks a decade of dirtbusting in East Lancashire. This year's competition, run in conjunction with the Tidy Britain Group, Groundwork, British Aerospace and the Environment Agency, attracted 137 entries - the highest number ever in the history of Grimewatch.

Projects ranged from landscaping schemes to recycling initiatives.

All entrants shortlisted for this year's awards have been invited to today's event, when they will discover if they have won a top prize. The awards will be presented by environmentalist and broadcaster Dr David Bellamy, who was a judge at the very first Grimewatch awards 10 years ago.

Awards will be presented in categories covering nursery, primary and secondary schools, businesses, community groups, local authorities, heritage projects and long-term projects.

The winners of the titles of Junior Grimebuster of the Year and Grimebuster of the Year, sponsored by Lancashire Waste Services, will also be named.
