Burnley Reserves 1 Middlesbrough Reserves 5
PAUL Gascoigne strutted his stuff for 65 minutes and Andy Campbell and Alun Armstrong grabbed two goals apiece as Burnley's reserves were outclassed by a powerful Middlesbrough side last night.
A crowd of 1,531 turned up at Turf Moor and those that came to see Gascoigne weren't disappointed.
The midfield star's lack of mobility may hold him back these days but his passing and vision is evidently still top-class.
And it was two accurately delivered corners from Gascoigne that allowed Armstrong and Steve Baker to head the visitors into a 2-0 lead.
The contest was over after 21 minutes when Campbell added a third with a clinical finish.
Campbell then claimed the goal of the game six minutes after the re-start as he sprinted clear to slide a shot past Mawson, who stood between the Clarets and a heavier beating.
He did concede again when Armstrong converted an Alan Moore cross but Burnley, who stayed in the bottom two of the Pontins League First Division, at least finished on a positive note.
Marlon Beresford, given a warm reception on his return to Turf Moor, had already beaten away a swerving shot from Steve Morgan before Phil Eastwood got the goal his performance merited 13 minutes from time.
Burnley reserves: Mawson, Vindheim, Devenney, West, Williamson, Morgan, Graham (Kelly 46), Ford (Kevan 46), Eastwood, Jepson (Shandran 47), Maylett.
