BEARDWOOD school has many sporting achievements to its credit and this season there has been a notable success in a variety of sports.

The year 10 basketball team became Blackburn with Darwen town champions with victories against Pleckgate (50-24), St Bede's (27-18), Witton Park (50-16), Darwen Moorland (50-37), St Wilfrid's (43-28) and QEGS (64-31).

The match against Darwen Vale was a conceded win.

Team captain Adnan Shad had a magnificent season and scored a total of 183 points out of the 284 points we scored all season.

Further success came in the indoor six-a-side cricket tournament where the side did very well to reach the final after beating Our Lsdy's and St John's, Moorhead and Rhyddings in the qualifying rounds. However in the final the boys were unlucky to lose against a very good QEGS who will go on to play at Old Trafford in the regional finals.

Both boys and girls teams enter the Blackburn with Darwen town athletic championships and have enjoyed some reasonable success. We also have teams who compete in various leagues in the borough for football, cricket, basketball, rounders an table tennis.

A centre of excellence for girls in table tennis, based at the school, receives sponsorship and specialist coaching sessions are held two evenings every week.

Individual and team successes have been achieved.

There are a range of activities at lunch times and after school where we run as a mixture of clubs, team practices and inter league competitions. Many of the pupils take part and participate with lively enthusiasm, particularly the Danish rounders club.

Beardwood's PE department's approach is to encourage participation and enjoyment in a wide spectrum of physical activities to which the pupils respond accordingly.
