Chorley 0 Guiseley 2

CHORLEY'S UniBond Premier Division survival hopes look slim indeed after a demoralising defeat at the hands of a Guiseley team who were surprisingly sharp for a side playing their fourth match in eight days.

Although two goals sloppily conceded at set pieces basically brought the Magpies' downfall, only two excellent reflex saves by keeper Simon Marsh prevented Guiseley from extending their winning margin.

Not that Chorley did not have their chances. On a night when he might have had a hat trick, Winfield Steele proved profligate in the extreme,.

In fact Steele broke through in the first minute but failed to squeeze his shot past keeper Steve Dickinson. Tony Carroll then twice got in headers from crosses without directing either on target.

Guiseley went in front on 23 minutes when, not for the only time, Neil Parsley whipped in a testing corner from which Michael Morrell was given room to score with a free header.

Marsh later tipped over a Bobby Davison header and from the corner made a magnificent point blank save from a fierce Colin Hogarth shot.

The second half began more brightly for Chorley, with Carroll cleverly combining with Steele but the latter could only shoot straight at Dickinson.

The Magpies ought to have had a penalty when the tricky Steve Jones was bundled over. Instead they quickly found themselves two down when, from another Parsley corner Davison lost his marker at the back post to smash in Guiseley's second on 57 minutes.

And they should have had another when Morrell burst through only to be denied by the ever reliable Marsh.
