Accrington Stanley 2 Emley 0

STANLEY rekindled hopes of escaping the relegation trapdoor by chalking up their second consecutive victory to move within three points of second-bottom Chorley.

Wayne Harrison's men thoroughly deserved only their seventh league win of the season, following hot on the heels of Saturday's morale-boosting 4-0 demolition of Gainsborough.

The Reds attacked straight from the kick off with Billy O'Callaghan shooting over from 35 yards and Paul Lynch's drive was well saved by Andy Rhodes.

Paul Tomlinson glanced an Aidan Warder corner just past the post before O'Callaghan set up Steve Baines for a shot but the midfield man blazed over.

Stanley's pressure eventually paid off in first half injury time when Chris Ingham played the ball into the area, Baines flicked it on to O'Callaghan and his driven cross was forced home by Heavey after his first effort came back off the post.

The Reds got forward at every opportunity in the second half as Baines shot wide from a Warder free kick before Rhodes made an excellent tip over from O'Callaghan's volley.

But Stanley's top-scorer wasn't to be denied for long and he swept home the second on 58 minutes after picking up a loose ball in the six yard box.

A Heavey header was cleared off the line before Jamie Speare saved well from Paul David to keep his second successive clean sheet as Stanley finished up comfortable winners.

Great Harwood Town will be aiming to stretch their unbeaten run to four matches in their UniBond First Division clash at ninth placed Bradford Park Avenue tonight (kick off 7.30pm).
