THE parent firm of Bacup-based Bootham Engineers has reported a fall in profits.
And Dowding & Mills said weakness in the manufacturing sector mean the future prospects for the group were uncertain.
Turnover for the second half of 1998 rose slightly from £59.3 million to £59.7 million but profits before tax and one off costs fell from £5.8 million to £5.4 million.
In a statement the firm said trading throughout the six months was mixed with the UK business performing well despite general economic slowdown but the firm's American operations lost money.
The firm said the outlook for the coming year was uncertain.
"January began quietly in most locations although, as anticipated, volumes have picked up in February. With the continuing weakness in the manufacturing sector, the outlook continues to be uncertain in the short term."
