THE announcement that Charlie Dimmock, the lady in the TV gardening programme, Ground Force -you know, the flame-haired lass in jeans and a T-shirt that looks like it's fighting a losing battle with a volcanic eruption - is to get her own show on BBC TV is good news for all us green-fingered fellows.
For, of course, we have been waiting for years for a gardening programme that concentrates on the nitti-gritti of lawn improvement, combating carrot fly and so forth instead of it being a showcase for the presenters themselves.
Which is why Charlie's remarkable ability not to distract attention from such matters has had millions of blokes who do not own so much as a window box already hooked on Ground Force.
Sometimes, you know, they do spend your licence money well.
