LEIGH RMI extended their unbeaten run to six matches with a 0-0 draw at Bishop Auckland.

But one point should have been three.

After a poor first half when goalkeeper Dave Felgate kept them on level terms with a trio of super saves, Leigh hit back to create enough chances to have won the game.

The best fell to Ian Monk who headed Mick Wallace's cross against the crossbar from just three yards with the goalkeeper beaten.

"We should have won," said manager Steve Waywell.

"But it is a difficult place to visit and it is a good point that in the final reckoning could prove vital.

"We were in complete control in the second half and I didn't feel I needed to alter things. But the final breakthrough never came.

"In the first half we were under the cosh a little and we have to learn to put two good halves back to back."

Peter Smyth produced a top performance, especially in the first half, and was unlucky not to break the deadlock when he curled a shot just over the angle of post and bar.

LEIGH RMI beat Runcorn 1-0 in their home first leg of the President's Cup semi-final.

Newcomer Tony Black scored the only goal in the 20th minute, his second in as many matches.

"We bossed the first half very well and should have had more goals," said manager Steve Waywell.

"In the second half we gave away too much possession too easily and Runcorn played their best football for some time."

Another newcomer, Andy Grimshaw, had an impressive game with goalkeeper Dave Felgate once again outstanding.

RMI have loaned out two of their strikers for a month. Keith Evans has gone to Lancaster while Lee Cryer has joined Radcliffe Boro.
