RECOVERED cancer suffer Alex Farrimond didn't know what she'd let herself in for when she appealed for people to stride out in a Mothers' Day crocus walk for charity.
The 68-years-old Atherton pensioner, of Douglas Road, who has conquered both breast and cervical cancer at different times in her life, asked The Journal to help in her bid to raise funds for Breakthrough - for breast cancer research.
As a result two walks took place from The Avenue, Leigh, and Millers Lane, Atherton, meeting up at Lilford Park, Leigh.
Now Alex wants to thank everyone who took part.
She said: "It was a wonderful experience for me. In the short time we had the response was great.
"When I arrived at The Avenue there was no-one there and my stomach was in knots. I needn't have worried, very soon people with children and dogs began to arrive.
"The two walks met up and the children let off 12 bin bags of purple and white balloons, and we had refreshments donated by local shops.
"It was a wonderful experience, one I will never forget.
"I have many to thank, but most of all the people and friends who gave their time to take part. Not many remain unaffected by cancer."
Other donations to Breakthrough can be made at the Halifax Building Society in Leigh and Atherton - reg charity no 1062636.
