GOLBORNE Townswomen's Guild members adopted a life saving baby charity for their fund raising work.
After members decided to back The Cot Death Association they set out hopefully to raise half the cost of a £400 monitor.
But they worked so hard organising events that they pulled in enough to supply TWO new machines.
Work started with a quiz at the home of Mrs Barbara Inman, whose husband Ken compiled the questions.
Then followed raffles in the hope of providing three quarters of a machine.
Tubes of Smarties were sold next with members being asked to fill the empty tubes with 20p pieces.
A car boot sale followed, where Sue Roberts, Carol Whitehead and Josie Halliwell braved teeming rain to take the total to over £400.
Still the women didn't rest on their laurels and with money still coming in from the tubes, the arts and crafts section made and sold Christmas decorations.
A final effort was made at the Christmas party, where a stall sold toys, baby clothes and gifts, many hand made.
And when the area fund raising officer for the association, Lee Allen, attended a guild meeting to demonstrate a monitor, she was delighted to receive a cheque for £806.75.
She presented the group with a framed certificate and presented personal awards to Barbara Inman, Sue Roberts, Josie Halliwell, Carol Whitehead and Kathy Unsworth.
