AMBITIOUS plans have been unveiled to mark the 25th anniversary of a Leyland community.
Residents in Moss Side plan to hold a week-long celebration to mark a quarter of a century in existence, culminating in a day-long festival on the Village Green on Saturday, July 10, if council bosses give the project the green light.
The council is currently consulting the Moss Side Community Forum and locals to decide over the event The borough's parks manager is expected to make the final decision.
Among the events provisionally lined up for the gala day are a parade, a small fun fair, falcon display, live music, fireworks and a craft stall.
A spokesman for South Ribble Borough Council said: "A request has been received from the forum to use Moss Side Village Green to hold their 25 year celebration event on Saturday, July 10.
"Council officers have already met with the organisers on site to discuss access and safety and the organisers are requesting permission in principle to use the site."
The events, which, say organisers, may carry an American theme, will mark 25 years since the first buildings were erected on the area which the Commission For New Towns named Moss Side.
The event is one of a number of schemes being pioneered on the estate in a bid to improve community spirit in the area. Other projects include food co-ops and the community forum, which are designed to help improve the standard of living in the area.
