SUNSHINE and soaring temperatures sent Bank Holiday crowds flocking to the coast and hills.
By mid-morning, roads out of East Lancashire were full of families making a last-minute holiday dash. But motoring organisations warned there was chaos ahead as the return trek begins.
Blackpool, Morecambe, the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales were top of the day-tripping pops, with heavy traffic reported on all roads. Lancashire police have praised the behaviour of motorists, with no serious accidents over the holiday weekend.
