A MORECAMBE territorial soldier has been commended for bravery after assisting at the scene of a serious road traffic accident.
Darren Smith, 28, was at the headquarters of the field hospital volunteers in Manchester when a serious traffic accident occurred outside. Lance Corporal Smith, along with three others, went to the aid of the injured despite flames and the threat of explosion form the burning wreckage.
Although the injuries to the victims proved fatal, Greater Manchester Police recorder their appreciation of of the soldier's actions.
Major General Searby said: "It is clear to me that throughout the incident you maintained the highest standards of professional and technical competence bringing credit to yourself."
