THE all-conquering St Helens Town Amateur Boxing Club notched a seventh national title in three seasons when Martin Murray won the National Schoolboys title at 45 kilos at the weekend.
Martin (16) defeated Ian Cochrane from Stowe at the Burnley Metro Dome with a massive 20-3 verdict.
This was a well-deserved success for the talented teenager who has been knocking on the door for some time. It has also earned him international recognition for forthcoming matches against Scotland and Russia.
And club officials feel sure they were denied another title when Gary Davies had to withdraw at the semi-final stage after a recent bout of illness left him unable to make the weight.
Now, Martin, Gary and 17-year-old Steven Birch will be bidding to take another step to Junior ABA crowns when they take part in the North West Counties Championships next week.
Meanwhile, the club's Bobbies Lane gym is open Monday to Friday from 5.45 to 8pm for people wishing to do boxing training, weight training or general keep-fit.
CLUB officials have reported a positive feedback to the Star's recent story on their on-going battle to save the Bobbies Lane site following the closure of the United Glass factory at Peasley Cross.
After talks with St Helens South MP, Gerry Bermingham, they remain confident of securing their long-term future at Bobbies Lane and an on-site meeting has been organised with other sports clubs using the facilities and leaders of St Helens Council.
