BURY'S CVS manager will have his head in the clouds for a week when he aims to raise money for the Manchester Children's Hospital Appeal.
Chris Langhorn of Oldfield Road, Prestwich, will attempt to climb a staggering 16,345 feet to reach the Point Lenana summit of Mount Kenya.
The 42-year-old father-of two admits that it will be a real challenge.
"I was a Marines Commando in the Royal Marines and had to keep in shape but that 20 years ago," explained Mr Langhorn.
"I do keep fit regularly but I have never done anything like this before."
Mr Langhorn will set off for the climb of his life on September 11 for eight days. And he already has started a training programme.
"A climb like this requires a high level of fitness so I have have to have a strict training programme. One of the main problems will be the effect of altitude which is why proper preparation and knowledge about the symptoms are essential."
Mr Langhorn needs to raise £2,500 for the expedition. He already has £200 but is looking for local firms to sponsor him.
"I do need help with equipment and fundraising so if anyone is willing to help I would be very grateful."
He added: "It is going to be a hard slog but I am really looking forward to the challenge. I am just glad that I can help such a worthy cause."
