A MOTHER-of-two was left counting her blessings after a car careered through the back garden of her home in Clarence Close, Peasley Cross, before being halted by a lawn roller just four feet from the kitchen where she was making a cup of tea!

Michelle Lever (33) got the shock of her life when the car came crashing through her 6ft wooden fence at about 4pm on Tuesday, March 9. Although unhurt, she badly shaken by the incident which could have ended in tragedy.

She told the Star: "I couldn't believe it when the car smashed through the fence and I keep thinking about how lucky I was. If it hadn't been for the roller the car would certainly have come through the kitchen wall and God knows what would have happened to me.

"My two children Ian (11) and Samantha (13) had been in the kitchen just minutes before the accident and Ian often plays in the back garden so I dread to think what might have happened."

The offending vehicle had been going along Appleton Street, which runs at the back of Michelle's home, and she hopes this latest 'near miss' will prompt action to stop drivers speeding along the stretch.

She said: "After the car came through the fence the driver tried to reverse out, but he couldn't, so he and his passenger got out and left."

"We do have a problem with speeding motorists on Appleton Street and hopefully this will act as a warning so drivers will slow down in future, or perhaps the council will put some speed-restricting ramps in."
