TOM COWAN admitted that his wonder goal which helped Burnley secure a remarkable 4-3 win over Macclesfield yesterday was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Cowan scored with a stunning bicycle kick to make it 2-2 as the Clarets twice equalised before snatching a last-minute winner to climb out of the bottom four.
And he confessed: "I don't think I'll ever hit one like that in my life. I'll never catch it as right again and I'll probably never go for one like that again.
"I thought about flicking it on with my head and then thought 'let's go for it'."
And Cowan's first goal for Burnley, following his recent arrival until the end of the season, made amends for an early slip-up and two thumping headers which were inches away from going in.
"Once you make a mistake like that for the first goal all you want to do is make up for it. You're dying to score," he said.
"Sometimes you can try too hard and I think sometimes that was happening and I was giving myself too much to do.
"But then I had a few chances and that settled me down. There were a few great deliveries from corners, right on my head. "We had worked on it for the two centre-halves to take the big man away and just me to go on the penalty spot and I can't believe how it worked.
"The first one hit him on the knee on the line when I don't think he knew much about it and I thought it was going to be one of those days."
Cowan shouldn't have doubted it would come right, however, as he revealed: "For some reason I never, ever thought we were going to lose the game. It was a strange, strange feeling.
"Last week we played ever so well and should have won. This week we were 2-0 down and I'm thinking we're not going to lose this. At half-time all the lads were saying the same and it turns out we won 4-3.
"It's frightening how it turned out," added the former Huddersfield defender, who also predicted before the game that Andy Payton would end his goal drought.
"I did it last year with Wayne Allison when we were in a sticky patch.
"But tried it again the next week and it didn't work so I can only do it once!"
