AFTER drug-related deaths among the young in communities throughout the country, it's welcome to hear of an initiative by the police and the local football league to monitor the football-playing youngsters and, hopefully, convey the message that drugs can kill or ruin your life.
After refereeing the young for many years, I did not find the problem was apparent. But times change and awareness is needed more than ever to eradicate this life-threatening problem.
A combined effort from all concerned - managers, police and parents - should help to curb all would-be takers and, more importantly, the drug-pushers.
I believe Hyndburn and District Boys' League may be one of the first to initiate the venture. For all of this, I feel we should all be duly thankful.
