TWENTY boys at a Burnley high school have been awarded literacy achievement certificates and others in their year are close behind.
Our Super Story Search newspaper reading project proved a hit with all year seven pupils of St Theodore's RC High School, and Newspapers in Education co-ordinator Rita Shaw visited the school to present completion certificates.
The students were keen to give their own views on the scheme, voting in a great project with something for everyone.
"We really enjoyed using the workbook and newspaper to find out about our own area and other parts of the world," they said.
"The sports reports were especially interesting, as were pieces relating to some of our hobbies, such as the theatrical reviews. In fact, the whole project was fun to work through and has improved our reading and spelling as well as keeping us up to date with local and national issues.
"Many of us are now having a go at writing and designing our own newspapers and trying our hand at eye-catching headlines and dramatic reports."
Super Story Search material is available to any type of school in East Lancs. For further details contact Rita Shaw, tel: 01254 678678 ext 255, fax no 01254 680429.
