Grimsby Town Reserves 3 Burnley Reserves 2

BURNLEY Reserves travelled to bottom of the table Grimsby Town last night in the Pontin's League and after an evenly matched first half with few chances for either side, the game sprang to life eight minutes into the second period.

Jack Lester replaced the injured Lee Ashcroft at the start of the second half and it was Lester who played a neat one-two with Dobbin to carve open the Clarets defence for Dobbin to fire low past Mawson.

The Clarets were level on the hour when Eastwood turned his marker before teeing up Morgan whose fierce drive across goal beat Love in the Mariners goal, but struck the post and fell for substitute Shandran on for the injured Vindheim to score from the rebound.

Two goals in two minutes sealed all three points for the home side. Jim Dobbin set up Lester to fire across Mawson into the corner of the net, and it was Lester again who caused the Clarets defence problems all through the second half after winning a penalty after Williamson felled the Grimsby hitman inside the area. Wayne Burnett took the spot kick giving Mawson no chance hitting the ball low to the right.

The Clarets grabbed a lifeline with seven minutes remaining when Shandran turned ex-Blackburn man Livingstone in the area and was brought to the ground, Phil Eastwood took the kick firing into the right hand corner.

The Clarets pushed for a share of the spoils, but the closest they came was a Phil Eastwood strike from the edge of the area which wnt inches over the bar.

Burnley: Mawson, Vindheim (Shandran), Morgan, West, Williamson, Heywood, Maylett, Kelly, Eastwood, Doherty, Kevan.
