WHALLEY PUMAS Under-9s 0

BLACKBURN EAGLES 0

IN A very hard-fought entertaining game, both defences held the upper hand throughout the game.

Ashley Higson in the Whalley goal and the Eagles keeper both made some excellent saves.

Sam Townend at the heart of the Whalley defence was outstanding and Adam Brown was awarded the man of the match for Whalley for his tireless running and skilful passing up front for the villagers. A draw was a fair result.

WHALLEY PANTHERS Under-9s 2

BLUE STAR ACES 0

WHALLEY Panthers had to wait until the last game of the season to record their first league win. They defended stoutly in the opening stages and goalkeeper James Ormiston kept them in the game with one fabulous save.

Whalley began to get on top towards half time and were rewarded with a fine goal by Daniel Hosker who beat the keeper from just outside the box with a well struck shot.

Whalley continued their dominance after the break and another fine strike by Hosker made it 2-0 after 10 minutes of the second half. Blue Star fought back courageously but found the Whalley defence in tip-top form. Daniel Hosker was named man of the match in a fine all-round team performance. WHALLEY TIGERS Under-10s 1

OSSY VILLA BOYS 0

WHALLEY Tigers put in a very brave battling performance against a very physical Ossy Villa side and deserved to win all the points. Sam Taylor was man of the match for his great performance in midfield and he topped it all off with a fine goal in the first half that ultimately proved to be the winner.

Donald Wharton was also outstanding in defence and Ben Wright caused Ossy problems the whole game with his unselfish running up front. A great all-round team performance by the Tigers.

WHALLEY ARROWS Under-10s 1

BLUE STAR 3

WHALLEY came up against a resurgent Blue Star team who played some of the best football seen at Under-10s level this season. Their passing and movement was exciting to watch.

Whalley were on top for the first 10 minutes, but Blue Star took the lead with a quick breakaway, and five minutes later added a second through an own goal. Play was flowing and both teams were playing some very good football.

Five minutes into the second half Whalley were awarded a penalty which Marlon Murray gleefully smashed into the roof of the net. Whalley were striving for an equaliser, but it was Blue Star who scored again following some free-flowing football.

Gary Micaleff, Marlon Murray and Robert Kellaway played well for Whalley, and Alex Smith won their man of the match award.

WHALLEY Under-11s 2

HASLINGDEN BOYS 0

WHALLEY put the visitors under early pressure and Sam Dean opened the scoring after five minutes. Haslingden were being restricted to breakaways during which they unluckily hit a post.

Whalley opened the second half in the same vein and Sam Dean scored a goal to rival any for the goal of the season. He got the ball in his own half and beat four players before shooting past the Haslingden keeper.

Whalley were well on top now and easily took the points. There were fine performances in defence by Zak Foley and Andrew Hargreaves, in midfield by Darren Fothergill and up front by man of the match Sam Dean.

WHALLEY Under-13s 2

OGGY HOSPUR 1

DUE to injuries and holidays Whalley took the field with only 10 men. However, they fought for every ball and their non-stop running and 'never-say-die' attitude earned all three points in an exciting encounter.

Oggy took the lead early on when Whalley failed to clear a corner. Straight from the re-start Whalley put pressure on the Oggy defence and fine passing between Enefer, Thorpe and Fothergill resulted in the ball coming to Michael Bill who lashed it into the net.

Whalley's defence of Drew, Poplett and Donald were now standing firm and Liam Barton in goal was in inspired form and kept Oggy at bay. The midfield of Harper, Bill and Banfield were now controlling things with some fine passing.

In the second half the game was swinging from end to end and as time was running out, it looked all over a draw until Terry Fothergill hit an unstoppable shot over the keeper with two minutes to go to seal the points for the villagers.

A great performance by every player and goalie Liam Barton was voted man of the match. ROSSENDALE VALLEY 1

WHALLEY Under-14s 5

WHALLEY went 1-0 up after 15 minutes with a great lob by Jamie Barnes who cheekily nipped in between defender and goalie to find the top corner of the net. Rossendale equalised almost immediately before Mark Langley made it 2-1 just before the break.

In the second half Whalley began to dominate proceedings and Langley scored his second and Whalley's third. Whalley's fast flowing football was now far too much for Rossendale and Jamie Barnes added a fourth.

Man of the match Langley scored with a good shot to complete his hat trick and Whalley's fifth to seal all three points. Whalley thoroughly deserved this fine win which saw them continue their march up the table.

WHALLEY Under-15s 6

DARWEN TOWN 4

WHALLEY were playing against a strong wind in the first half, but Michael Shields put them in front after 10 minutes. Darwen didn't take long to equalise as the game swung from end to end. Shields again put Whalley in front, and 10 minutes before half-time, Steven Hickey made it 3-1.

What a crazy 10 minutes that was for Whalley as Darwen scored three times to lead 4-3 at half time. Whalley made the most of the wind at their backs in the second half. With Ben Parsons running the show in midfield, Edward Andrews equalised for Whalley before Shields put them back in front with his third and Whalley's fifth.

With time running out for Whalley, Kieran Fitzpatrick added a great sixth for the villagers to seal all three points. Ben Parsons was voted man of the match and Michael Shields was also outstanding.

FENISCOWLES 6

WHALLEY Under-16s 0

WHALLEY fielded an understrength side against league leaders Feniscowles and paid the price. Things were fairly even for the first 20 minutes before Feniscowles took the lead. Shortly afterwards two players were sent off for fighting and Whalley seemed to be affected more as they conceded a goal almost immediately.

Trailing 2-0 at the break, Whalley began to leak goals at regular intervals in the second half. Chris Clarkson in midfield and Danny Rigby in defence played well for Whalley, but Mick Walsh in goal was outstanding and kept the score down with some superb saves.
