A MAN returned to his girlfriend's house to get a weapon after fighting with her father.
And when Jean Neil tried to stop him, Andrew William Riley grabbed her around the neck.
Riley, 29, of Burton Street, Rishton, was bound over in the sum £50 to be of good behaviour for six months by Blackburn magistrates when he admitted a breach of the peace.
David Macro, prosecuting, said Riley had been out drinking with Miss Neil's father and during the course of the evening a fight broke out.
Miss Neil told police Riley went back to her house in Rothesay Road to get a weapon.
"She feared for her father's safety and when she interjected he assaulted her, grabbing her around the neck," said Mr Macro.
Paul Schofield, defending, said Riley denied any criminal behaviour although he accepted he had been drinking heavily and had entered into a nasty argument with his girlfriend's father.
"As far as he is concerned his girlfriend was not involved and he was not violent towards her," added Mr Schofield.
