A CRIME-fighting partnership has been given a cash boost by council bosses who are determined to reduce offences in Hyndburn.
A one-off sum of £32,000 has been set aside in next year's budget to bolster the borough's Crime and Disorder Strategy.
The action plan has been drawn up following the creation of the Hyndburn crime audit and public consultation.
The strategy aims to tackle the causes of offending in the worst-hit parts of the borough.
Six targets have been identified, including Accrington town centre, Eachill in Rishton and Huncoat's Within Grove estate. The burning issues of road casualties, drink and drugs abuse and young people's problems will also come under the spotlight. Ways forward include action on domestic violence, a 'youth hut' meeting place in Rishton, out-of-school training initiatives and reducing tension between older and younger people.
Hyndburn Council chiefs are working with partners such as the police, the county council and East Lancashire Health Authority to stamp out crime.
About £11,000 of the money will be spent on street light repairs to help people feel safe and aid the use of CCTV systems.
Council leader George Slynn, said: "The challenge of making Hyndburn a safer place to live, work and play has been taken up with considerable enthusiasm.
"The council is delighted to make this contribution to crime prevention and community safety."
