LABOUR candidates for the May local elections vowed to fight for investment in Darwen at the official launch of their campaign in the town.
Campaign manager Coun Michael Barrett said: "Labour councillors work hard in their areas for constituents. In Darwen they have brought CCTV to the town centre, localised services at the town hall and not least the major retail development that Sainsbury's will bring.
"Our next campaign is to improve service, punctuality, cleanliness and facilities for Darwen Railway Station and provide stops at Spring Vale and Lower Darwen."
The five Darwen candidates handed over a petition of nearly 300 Darwen residents to the town's MP and culture minister Janet Anderson asking for government action to force rail companies to invest in the community.
Mr Barrett added: "Darwen Labour councillors have campaigned hard against the water companies in recent months.
"That same zeal will now be directed at the rail companies."
