PNE girls flying high IN THIS rehearsal for the Lancashire Cup final, PNE beat top of the table Everton, previously unbeaten this season.
PNE were in control throughout and Katie Anderton was outstanding in the centre of midfield.
Everton rarely troubled the home side but when they did, Natalie Brewer dealt with it effectively in the PNE defence.
Despite all the PNE pressure, it looked like being a goalless first half until Anderton was brought down in the penalty area - she got up to score the resulting spot kick and put PNE 1-0 up at half time.
In the second half, the whites continued to create the better chances and it was no surprise when Anderton broke free of the visitors defence and slotted the ball home to make it 2-0.
With 10 minutes left, Lucy Ireland was unlucky not to make it three but her shot crashed back off the bar and Gemma Turner was narrowly wide with the rebound.
It would have been a tense last few minutes for PNE had Everton not missed their penalty awarded to them five minutes from time.
A great win for PNE and a big psychological boost for the forthcoming cup final.
