UP to 750 jobs could be created in Preston by the Inland Revenue, charged with the task of administrating the new Working Families Tax Credit (WFTC) scheme.
One of two national centres to deal with the replacement for Family Credit will be located in Preston.
Lancashire's deputy leader, Councillor Frank McKenna, said: "In Lancashire, an additional 12,000 families will be eligible for the new scheme along with the 20,000 already getting Family Credit.
"The WFTC will result in an increase in spending nationally of £1.5 billion, bringing an extra £45 million to Lancashire.
And child maintenance payments will not be taken into account when calculating the benefit and non co-operation with the Child Support Agency will not be penalised under WFTC."
