IN his support for Europe (Your Letters, March 19) Councillor Frank Adam fails to acknowledge that most British people are unable to accept that an unelected power base is able to make laws without reference to the people.
This country fought two world wars to save this precious freedom for our future generations, leaving three million little white crosses scattered around Europe, the Mediterranean, Asia and the Far East.
Of course, Coun Adam is correct in stating that we have a lot wrong in Great Britain. And if we are unable to get it right in our own country, what chance will we have in a state where we would have only 87 votes against 567 from other members.
Each year we lose more of our hard-won democracy and freedom of choice, including how we fish and farm etc. The list is endless.
When it comes to transnational companies, anyone who thinks Great Britain is second rate must be living in Cloud Cuckoo Land. We have numerous big players, several being the largest in the world.
Also, Great Britain exports to the rest of the world, bringing in a surplus of some £46 billion. Our European trade (plus our EU budget) brings us a debit balance of £63 billion. On a financial basis it would appear that we would actually do better without Europe!
It really is time Her Majesty's Opposition stood up and waved the Union flag to ensure our children's future democratic freedom.
