A HIGH-powered motorbike used by armed robbers in a raid on a sub-post office was found at Runshaw College, in Leyland.

Police have revealed that the raiders, who held up the Chorley sub-post office brandishing baseball bats, dumped their getaway vehicle - a D-reg Yamaha 400 - between two classrooms at the college.

Officers are hunting two men after the £27,000 robbery, in Astley Park, at around 10.10am on Friday, March 26.

Customers at the post office, in Martin newsagents, Hallgate, were threatened and told to keep still by the raiders, one wearing a balaclava and the other, a crash helmet.

One of the men smashed the glass security partition on the counter before clambering over and snatching two bags containing cash.

They escaped on the motorbike, which was stolen from Blackpool a week before.

Although Lancashire Police's helicopter joined the hunt, police lost sight of the motorbike in Runshaw Lane, between Euxton and Leyland.

It was found around 45 minutes later, at the back of Runshaw College.

Officers combed the area of Worden Park and cordoned off the post office and newsagents for forensic investigations. A baseball bat was recovered at the scene.

Both robbers are described as slim.

A spokesperson for post office counters said they were thankful no one had been injured in the robbery.

Anyone with information about the raid is asked to call Chorley CID on 01257-269021.
