A YOUTH picked up his father and threw him across the room during a "family row".

Drunken Darren Holgate, 18, owed court fines and his father Terence had not been very happy when bailiffs turned up at their house to enforce a warrant, Burnley magistrates heard.

Production worker Holgate, of Marine Avenue, Burnley, was bound over to keep the peace for 12 months in the sum of £150 and also conditionally discharged for 12 months after admitting breach of the peace and assaulting Mr Holgate.

Sarah Statham, prosecuting, said an argument had developed after Holgate returned home at 11.15pm, quite drunk.

Holgate's father walked up to his son, who then picked him up and threw him across the room. Mr Holgate landed on the floor and suffered pain to both knees.

When police arrived, he was somewhat recovered, but Holgate continued to be abusive.

John Greenwood, defending, said the defendant was very ashamed to be in court for assaulting his father. He did not assault him in the way outlined.

There had been an argument between Holgate and his father after the bailiffs arrived and Mr Holgate had not been happy about that.

Both Holgate and his father were swearing at each other. It was not one-sided.

The defendant simply pushed his father away and Mr Holgate ended up on the floor. He did not throw him across the room.

Mr Greenwood added Holgate had spoken to his mother and he was allowed home. He would apologise to his father when he got there.
