I'M delighted visitors are to be given a warmer, brighter welcome to Leigh.
New colourful signs on the six main entrances into town, and sited at the point of the old borough boundary, will be a big boost.
The boards, the brainchild of local councillor John Lea, have been given the go-ahead by his colleagues, and will depict Leigh's industrial and sporting heritage.
They will be erected in Manchester Road, Warrington Road, Wigan Road, Leigh Road, Newton Road and Slag Lane.
A welcome addition to give back our town some of it's own individuality.
Now the only thing that needs changing to bring us into modern times is some of the street names.
If I had my way Slag Lane would be the first to go, closely followed by Bag Lane and Hag Fold in Atherton.
They keep our industrial past alive, but do nothing for the area's image.
