SOME of Blackpool's popular attractions are doubling up as seats of learning during a celebration to mark the achievements of mature students.
The SeaLife Centre, the Grand Theatre, libraries and Blackpool Zoo are among those supporting a scheme to show they're not only great places to visit - but educational too.
Bosses at each of the venues and education leaders in the town have chalked up a unique partnership to mark Adult Learners Week from May 17-23, Sign Up Week from September 6-10 and Family Learning Weekend from October 1-3.
Brought together by Rosella Davenport, adult education officer at Blackpool Council, they will work with the council, staff from Blackpool and the Fylde College and Blackpool Sixth Form College to demonstrate that learning isn't confined to classrooms and isn't restricted to under-19s.
Representatives from each organisation are currently pooling ideas to design a diverse and exciting timetable of events to show Blackpool as the place to learn as well as spend free time.
Education chairman Eddie Collett said: "The aim is to show that people of all ages and abilities can enjoy learning while they're out and about in the community, as well as in schools and colleges.
"We hope to encourage them to make the most of all these facilities on their doorstep and recognise that they're not just for the children."
The organisations are welcoming ideas on how the town could celebrate the adult learners' events.
