A DREAM move to Super League giants Wigan Warriors was too big an opportunity to turn down for Lynx stand off Phil Jones.

This transfer, for £30,000, going up to £60,000 depending on appearances, has been the one the Wigan outfit have been after for some time.

Last season's second division player of the year, Phil "Indiana' Jones was delighted at the move and looked forward to the challenge ahead.

Jones said: "I am grateful to Lancashire Lynx for everything that they have done for me but now I want to make the most of this fabulous opportunity."

Lynx will certainly struggle to replace a player who already tops the Rugby League points scoring chart this season.

Unfortunately for Lynx, scrum half Neil Flannagan was injured in the win over Rochdale Hornets last week and will probably be out of action for up to four weeks, which left both halfback positions vacant.

Sean Geritas on loan from Warrington filled Jones' shoes and Jason O'Loughlin was moved from centre to scrum half for the game at Featherstone.

The home side took an early lead when after good pressure down the left, club captain Carl Hall went over for his fourth try of the season.

Minutes later Doc Murray drove forward in his usual style but in the tackle he was flopped on and new second row Andy James converted to keep Lancashire in it.

James continued to impress with his hard driving but Geritas the new stand-off was struggling to come to terms with his new team.

Next Lynx were guilty of sliding too much in defence leaving a gaping hole for scrumhalf Paddy Handley to sprint through to make the touchdown for his first try since bagging a brace at the beginning of the season.

The hooker converted and daylight appeared between the teams.

Geritas was unlucky minutes later when he dropped a ball over the try line when it seemed easier to score.

Rovers rubbed salt in the wound when Chapman sailed over for an easy try and then converted to make the score 16-2 after half an hour.

That's how it stayed until half time but although Lynx were down they were certainly not out and the score could certainly have been a lot closer had they had a little more rub of the green.

So it proved at the start of the second period. Geritas had settled and sweetly side stepped two tackles to put Murray under the posts after seven minutes.

Tommy Hodgkinson at hooker went over for another try after good work from Geritas and Murray converted to put the Lancashire side behind by only two points.

Just when they were getting on top full back Matt Bramald raced through to score a great try for Featherstone. Again the hooker converted.

Two more tries put the Yorkshire team out of sight at 30-14.

Murray, refusing to give up, made a startling run through midfield feeding James who gave Neil Parsley a great ball on the wing for him to score in the left corner. It was all too late for Lynx though.

The next game is at Chorley at 3pm against Barrow Border Raiders.
