LIKE their big brothers down the road at Deepdale, Bamber Bridge have now set their sights on the second spot in the league after two defeats in a week.

One point from nine - they drew on Saturday away to Hyde thanks to a 70th minute equaliser from Andy Whittaker - has wrecked any realistic chance Brig had of snatching the title from favourites Altrincham, who now head the table with a two point advantage and four games in hand.

In short, only a minor miracle could let Brig in now. But even to finish second in the UniBond League would make an amazing turnaround for the Irongate side, who have spent the past couple of seasons fighting off the risk of relegation.

Greenwood's return to the helm of the good ship Brig has marked a return to the glory days not seen since ... Greenwood was last in charge!

He said: "In our position we are going to have to rely on other teams throwing points away and us collecting them all. We will carry on, play our best and hopefully do it."

Brig travel to Winsford at the weekend, taking on a Cheshire side who have dipped in form of late.

Greenwood's men could only muster a draw against them at Irongate last month and things have gone downhill slightly for both teams since.

Goalkeeper Craig Dootson could return after spending the best part of the months sidelined with a broken finger, while captain Darren Brown may have overcome the foot injury he sustained at Blyth a fortnight ago.

Then, on Monday, relegation-probabilities Accrington Stanley are the team coming to Irongate.

They looked dead and buried until recently. A good haul of points since Christmas has seen them come within three points of next-to-bottom Chorley.
