TRAFFIC chiefs in Bury have done a U-turn to ensure residents get the hump!
Heaton Fold was missed out of Fishpool area traffic calming measures. But now residents have been granted safety measures they have been campaigning for for years.
It was originally felt that Heaton Fold should be left out of the current £174,000 Fishpool Urban Safety Scheme due to low traffic levels and existing access restrictions.
But the introduction of measures on surrounding roads, including Gigg Lane, Parkhills Road and Wellington Road, is forcing drivers to use the quite Heaton Fold as a "rat-run".
Members of the traffic and engineering sub-committee this week gave the green light to a £3,500 extension to the safety scheme with the introduction of three humps in Heaton Fold.
Borough engineer Mr Mike Cannon: "Given the latest concerns expressed by local residents, Heaton Fold would involve relatively modest extension to the current scheme."
