THE Crime Prevention Department at St Helens Police Station, College Street, is leading the way in the fight against crime, having become only the second police force in the country to take delivery of a state-of-the-art computerised property marking system.
In partnership with local retailers, crime prevention officers will use the system to mark a variety of equipment, from computers to bikes, televisions to Playstations, using people's own postcodes.
For a nominal fee of 25p (or £2 for a set of 10) members of the public can order the identification labels, which can be placed on their belongings to deter thieves.
Police hope members of the public and the business world will take advantage of the new system to protect their own property and help reduce crime.
