A HOST of glitter and glam gave charity a major boost last week.

Fylde Mayor Anne Smith and her consort Len (pictured with Citizen reporter and her partner Paul Smith) joined civic members from around Lancashire on Friday for a night of dinner and dancing at the Mayor's Charity Ball.

Supported by your very own Citizen and sponsored by North West Water, all monies raised at St Annes' Glendower Hotel will go towards filling the coffers of the mayor's six nominated charities.

Age Concern in the Fylde, Victim Support, the MRI Scanner Appeal, the Omerod Trust, the Dystonia Society and St Annes based Face to Face will all benefit from the generosity displayed and a very good time was had by all in the process.

Councillor Smith told the Citizen: "Everyone worked very hard to produce a marvellous evening and I would like to thank all concerned who co-operated with and supported the event.

"I was certainly happy to be back in St Annes at a wonderful venue and although we are still sorting out the amount raised I'm sure the outcome will be of great support to the organisations concerned."

In a heartfelt and humorous speech the Fylde Mayor also thanked the Citizen's managing editor Bob Gray for the continued support from the paper throughout her term in office.

With the mayoral elections due on May 6 Anne Smith still has two more major events to conduct before her duties as mayor are relinquished.

The show of stars at Pontins Holiday Camp with Bucks Fizz and Phil Walker on April 25 and a Jazz Supper at Lytham's Clifton Arms Hotel on May 14 guarantee to be dates in anyone's diary.
