THE leafy village of Eccleston is to get all lit up for the millennium - and the 'Churches Together' movement will help light the torch!
For Christ Church, St. Julie's, United Reformed and the Methodists are planning to deliver a candle with holder containing a millennium prayer or resolution to every home in December, and these will be set aflame on New Year's Eve.
Cost of the candles is 30 pence per pack, which tots up to £1,050 for the 3,500 dwellings in Eccleston, and congregations from all four churches are asked to sponsor candles for their road or area.
This may be done by making a donation or taking a sponsored walk around the parish boundary, a distance of about five miles.
Candles have to be ordered and paid for during April, so now is the time for the people of Eccleston to demonstrate the real meaning of the millennium - ie the coming of Jesus, the Light of the World, 2000 years ago.
