MOD rockers The Itch release their new single this week at a launch gig in East Lancashire.
The Accrington four-piece, who teamed up with one of their idols for the song - a cover of a cult chart hit - unveil the single this Friday at Rishton Cricket Club.
The mod rockers got together with former Secret Affair singer Ian Page to record a version of the mod band's classic Time For Action. The song hit number 22 in the charts in 1979 when it sold 150,000 copies. The band met up with the former mod frontman after they were asked to record a track marking the 20th anniversary of seminal compilation album Mod Mayday '79.
The Itch, comprising drummer Dave Benmore, bassist Mark Griffiths, singer Pat Gallagher and guitarist Colin Benmore, have become well-known on the mod scene after playing scooter rallies and mod revival venues. The new single is released on the band's own Mod Incorporated label. It was originally intended for release through Detour Records, who released the band's debut album Avenue Parade in 1997. But Detour said they were unlikely to be able to release the song in the coming months and the band decided to release it themselves.
The new single was recorded at Studio Studio, in Whitworth, and is a double A-side with the band's own song Feeling All Right.
Tickets for Friday's show cost £1.50 and are available from the venue or by calling Pat on 01254 389857.
