STUNNING daffodils filled Barnoldswick Civic Hall as the town's horticultural society staged its fourth annual spring flower show.

Some of the bulbs cost as much as £45 said show secretary Alan Greenwood but he added: "That bulb didn't win a top prize.

"It is not necessarily what you pay for a bulb, it is how you grow it that is important and it is getting it to flower at its peak in time for the show.

"Last weekend I was at Southport and had hardly any blooms to take to show and over there they had hundreds, but the weather has come good this week and we have got a good show and the quality of entries is excellent."

Judge Tony James, of Warrington, who will be one of a team of judges at a national American show in Pennsylvania later this month, also praised the standard of entries both from experienced and seasoned growers and novices.

The show attracted entries from Wakefield, Bury, Bolton and all over East Lancashire.
