ANOTHER multi-million pound investment for production of the Eurofighter Typhoon in East Lancashire has been unveiled.
A £3.35 million machine to manufacture components has been delivered to the British Aerospace site at Samlesbury.
More than £100 million is being invested in the site, which employs 4,000 people, for production of parts for the four-nation fighter aircraft. The new machine, manufactured in Spain, has been installed in the fabrication centre at the site and will also be used for production of Airbus A320 components.
A new £2.65 million chemical etching line is also being built in the centre. In total, £16.25 will be spent there over the next two years.
As well as investment at the Samlesbury site, factories across East Lancashire are benefiting from the start of work on the Eurofighter Typhoon.
Burnley firms Hurel-Dubois, Pendle Aeroform, AIT and Cleveland Guest, of Colne, recently joined forces to win a £12 million contract from BAe. And a string of contracts, which local firms are in the running for, are expected to be announced in the next few months.
