SCHOOLS using our Super Story Search literacy project are given a selection of books to keep and review. The pupils featured here give their own views on some of the books they received:
Explorers Series - Night Sky, by Carol Stott, published by Dorling Kindersley, £3.99
IF you want to find out about the universe then this is the book for you. It has lots of pictures and plenty of information.
I wanted to find out about the sun and its family, so I looked it up on the contents page. This, along with the index, was very clear and made the job of finding things in the book much easier.
The text was quite easy to understand and very interesting with useful key words. Although the diagrams and illustrations were colourful and exciting, I found some of them a bit difficult to follow.
I would certainly recommend this as a good simple reference book for children of around 8-12 years old and very good value for the price.

Science, by Neil Ardley, published by Dorling Kindersley, £7.99
SCIENCE is the search for knowledge about the universe and how it works. Studying the whole universe is a huge task, so it is not surprising that there are many different branches of science. I discovered this by looking through this book. Over two thousand science topics are briefly explained, covering everything from basic substances of the universe to the weather and mathematics. I learned quite a lot about physics and chemistry from reading just a bit of the book, even though much of the text is not easy to understand for people of my age. But the excellent illustrations are a big help and there are lots of them.
I think this book must be aimed at those of around 13 and upwards and I am sure that I will get even more out of it when I am older.

My Pony Book, by Louise Prichard, published by Dorling Kindersley, £9.99.
THIS is a great book for anyone mad on ponies. It tells you how to look after them, how to ride and how to groom them. It also includes a bit about the different illnesses a pony can get and how to prevent these from happening.
The photographs in the book are excellent and I think that most people of my age, whether they have a pony, are hoping to get a pony, or just like being around ponies, would really enjoy this book.
