THERE was a double celebration for the ladies of Chorley Harriers in the Rivington Pike fell race.
Jeanette Coleman (16th), Janet Chaplin (18th) and Daryl Peter (20th) were the first team home, beating Horwich by one point, and as all three are veterans, they won that prize too.
The veteran men of Rossendale took second which was a remarkable effort as all three are over 50. Ken Taylor and Peter Lyons were second and third V50s and Peter Jepson was second V55. Paul Targett of Clayton (26th) was the only local ahead of Ken Taylor, although close behind were Alan Alty of Chorley Harriers (37th) and Gary Sumner from Rossendale (38th).
Blackburn Harrier Liam Barton and Hyndburn's Michael Hammer contested second place in the U18s with Liam finishing just ahead. Ted Orrell took the V60 class with Ron Hill third, both run for Clayton, and Chorley AC's John Payne won the V65s.
Former chair of Darwen Dashers, Jan Holding, was second L45. The Dashers had three new members racing, Simon Fox, Chris O'Brien and Steven Lucas.
