PLAYERS in the Leigh Public House Cricket League are heading for the World Cup.
As exclusively reported in The Journal last month, a squad has been chosen for the amateur six-a-side tournament to be played at Lord's on May 7.
The comp, open to just 12 teams from across the UK, is part of the warm-up to the Cricket World Cup.
League chairman Simon Chapman said: "This is a most exciting privilege to represent our country in such a prestigious event which will not be played in England again for another thirty years."
But the league desperately needs around £3,000 for their sporting adventure of a lifetime.
A Sportsman's Dinner will be held at Leigh Miners Welfare on April 14, an event run in association with Warren Hegg's testimonial.
Hegg himself will be the main speaker, and players from Lancashire CC and several RL clubs are expected to be there.
Among the prizes are Lancashire and England signed bats, a signed Manchester United ball and a Michael Owen shirt with the star raffle prize a holiday for two at a French chateau.
Ticket details from Mark Ward (01942-709132) or Simon Roach (01942-875893).
