Salem Hornets 10 Haresfinch 18 A DETERMINED Finch outfit containing eight teenagers returned to winning ways with a fine peformance against a dogged Salem Hornets side.
The Oldham side took the lead with a converted try when their big forwards took control in the early encounters.
But Salem tired and an impressive spell of work from second-rower Lee Burke paved the way for big prop Danny Flynn to force his way over for a try converted by Anthony Seabrook.
Finch's young players were settling in well and there was some enterprising centre play from Mason and Burgess to keep it level at 6-all at the break.
Salem were fired up after the restart and they took the lead with a try. But full-back Shaun Kilgannon steadied things and some strong runs by Eddie Tinsley and Stuart Simmons created space for Karl Farrall to crash over for a try converted by Seabrook.
Finch again threatened with some darting runs from scrum-half Ste Cunnliffe but Salem came back and put Finch's line under immense pressure.
This signalled the introduction of player coach Billy Platt and he immediately made his presence felt with some strong runs which resulted in centre Chris Mason bursting through to score a try converted by Seabrook to settle the issue.
The Franco's Wholesale Ltd Man of the Match was Shaun Kilgannon closely followed by Anthony Seabrook, Danny Flynn and Stuart Simmons.
