Re. last week's Mailbox letter regarding Shakerley estate.
Far from being the forgotten estate, many things are happening on Shakerley.
The pensioners' bungalows have recently finished being updated - new windows, roof renovations, new doors etc.
The fencing programme is ongoing, and more of our properties will have new fencing this year.
Our council rents compare more than favourably with our neighbouring authorities, and much less than the private sector.
All council estates have a renovation programme, this applies equally to Shakerley as well as to Hindsford.
Traffic calming measures have been introduced following the meeting called by residents on the estate.
Together with residents we are looking at ways of improving our estate. We have a clean-up day arranged soon. On the last we removed over 10 tons of rubbish.
Funding is being sought to improve the quality of life on Shakerley, and any residents with ideas on how to reduce crime would be more than welcome and would be used to enhance our bid.
We have a very successful community centre on Shakerley catering for all age groups, and any volunteers would be more than welcome.
To improve any area residents need to work together.
