HOMELESS young men and women from Lancaster will be even further away from 'home' on Sunday.
Youngsters from the district have organised a football match against fellow homeless youngsters from Barrow.
They will play at Barrow's ground wearing Lancaster City's away strip and their opponents will wear Barrow's home strip. The winning team will be awarded with a trophy and there will be a 'person of the match' award.
"They were away on an outward bound course and they met up with these lads from Barrow," remembered homeless worker Tony Hennessy. "The next thing is there's this football challenge coming down. We thought it was terrific. It's been great for them and Lancaster City and Barrow football clubs have been marvellous about it."
There will be a charge of £1 and 50p to see the game at Barrow and any money raised will go to the threatened Barrow football club.
Meanwhile workers at the homeless action centre are appealing for anyone who has any old games they no longer want to donate them to the centre. Said Tony Hennessy: "We have some very old board games which are great but doesn't get all of them in here and off the streets. If there was any other kind of game like one of those children's pool tables it would be brilliant." The centre is on Edward Street near the Golden Lion pub and can be called on 842008.
