WAR memorial garden improvements in Leigh will now cost £136,000.
Councillors have approved scheme amendments which have escalated the cost of the original £90,000 spruce-up.
The extra £46,000 will be swallowed by drainage work, lighting and a landscaping upgrade in keeping with the area's conservation status.
Funds will come from Landfill Tax (£60,000), Risk Management (£20,000), Brighter Borough Initiative (£10,000) and Parks revenue (£46,000).
Improvement scheme supporter and recreation and ameneties committee member Cllr Brian Jarvis said: "We want it completed this year and substantially completed by the end of September to minimise disruption for Remembrance Sunday."
