A £4 MILLION development to provide more space at a booming business park has got under way.

The Lancashire Enterprises Business Park at Leyland - where the former Leyland Daf operation was based - is now almost fully let with more than 50 companies employing over 2,000 now based at the 236 acre site.

Now a new phase which will create almost 100,000 sq ft of new industrial units has been started.

"The park has proved hugely successful," said County Councillor Frank McKenna, deputy leader of Lancashire County Council.

"More people are employed on the site today than when the former Leyland Daf went into receivership.

"There is still tremendous potential for further development and this £4 million investment package is just the first stage of our ambitious plans for the site."

The new development will see English Partnerships contribute £250,000 towards the demolition of a 300,000 sq ft factory building which was originally used to build Centurion tanks in the 1950s.

Another £984,000 has been secured from the Lancashire Manufacturing Partnership, a joint initiative including ELTEC and the county council.
